SALEM, N.Y. – People in Washington County remembered a longtime senior investigator during calling hours Friday.

Bruce Hamilton died earlier this week after suffering a heart attack. Many turned out for calling hours at Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church.

Hamilton joined the department in 1987 and was the lead investigator on several high profile homicides, fatal accidents and crimes against children.

Those on the job with him said his gentle demeanor helped solve some of his toughest cases,

“Any large case that ever happened in the county, Bruce was the guy that handled the case and Bruce was the guy that made sure it came to a successful conclusion,” Washington County Sheriff Jeff Murphy said. “So it’s a huge loss for the department. We’re never going to be able to replace him.”

Hamilton was 55-years-old.
