ALBANY, N.Y. - Monday marks a big deadline in the process of bringing Las Vegas-style casinos to New York State.

Developers must complete and submit their applications by Monday. The State Gaming Commission will then make the choice as to where the casinos will be placed. Developers have until four p.m. to get their proposals in to the commission.

There are several sites in the Capital Region area that have groups interested in building a casino. Those include sites in East Greenbush, Schenectady, Rensselaer, and Howe Caverns. There are a total of 17 teams in the running throughout the state.

The casinos will be divided among three regions, the Albany-Saratoga area, the southern tier, the Finger Lakes region, and the Catskills, Mid-Hudson River Valley.

The next step in the process will be the oral presentation of applications which will begin on July 21.

A final decision on where the casinos will go is expected in the fall.
