Catskill troopers arrest man for Grand Larceny

CATSKILL, N.Y.—Catskill troopers arrested a 68-year-old man for Grand Larceny on Wednesday.

James Martin, 68, was arrested for two counts of Grand Larceny in the third degree, three counts of Offering a False Instrument for Filing in the first degree, and Falsifying Business Records in the first degree.

After investigation, it was revealed that Martin, who was the Treasurer for the East Durham Volunteer Fire Company from 3005 through 2013, had stolen from various fundraiser events as well as from two bank accounts held by the company.

Investigation also showed that Martin had made numerous false entries within accounting records and filed false information to the IRS on the company’s behalf.

In total, Martin stole over $40,000 from the fire department.

Martin was arraigned in the Town of Durham Court and was sent to the Greene County jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond

He is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
