Inside the shop's glass cases you'll see red and blue frosting for the Giants and the Pats, an Eli Manning cake sitting right next to a Tom Brady and underneath, a completely unexpected combination...chicken wing cupcakes.
"My husband and my son are into chicken wings," says Coccadotts Cake Shop owner Rachel Cocca-Dott. "So I thought is there something I can do with a chicken wing and a cupcake?"
Cocca-Dott had a few key ingredients in mind. She used a little blue cheese and some hot sauce for the frosting and corn bread for the bottom. Top it all off with a real chicken wing and it's more a meal than dessert.
"You just dip it into the blue cheese and finish it off with the cupcake," Cocca-Dott says. "Because it's all blue cheese right down to the bottom."
"It sounds absolutely hideous but I have to try it," says customer Jerry Papanadrea.
"I love chicken wings and I love cupcakes," says customer Kaitlyn Skowyra. "Put the two together and I feel like it's a win-win."
And they're really in demand. Cocca-Dott says the phone is ringing off the hook.
"I think it's pretty much gone viral. It started this morning when my phone was ringing with Good Morning America," she says. "We've gotten calls from MSNBC and CNN and our cupcakes are headed down to New York City."
You can get yours right at the shop on Central Avenue in Colonie. Cocca-Dott says they'll be in stock right through Super Bowl Sunday.
