COLONIE N.Y- Looking forward to the running of Monday’s Boston Marathon, the Plourde family is also nervous to see how their son Jim will do emotionally after being a firefighter at least year’s event.

Jim will be attending Monday’s 118th marathon event. The past week has been hard for Jim as he has reconnected with the people he helped at the event a year ago.

The photo of Jim Plourde carrying a Boston Marathon victim to safety has been a photo seen around the world. Jim was only 30 feet away from the blast.

The Plourde’s kept a photo album as their son quickly became a symbol of Boston Strong.

Since NEWS10 ABC’s Lindsay Neilson last spoke with the Plourde family a year ago they have taken some time to heal, their son Jim has done the same.

Jim’s family says last year’s marathons events have made him a bit more somber. Seeing the blast and injuries took a toll on him.

Saturday Jim went out to lunch with one of the victims he rescued, the girl in the photo Victoria McGrath. He has also taken part in fundraisers, and events with victims.

Sunday Jim’s parents watched as he took part in a group of survivors that threw the first pitch at Boston Red Sox game.

"Jimmy is just representative of who we are, we're going to reach in and we're going to grab that person who needs our help and we are going to run to safety," said Jim’s family.

Jim asked to be a firefighter again at this year’s event, but was unable to. It has been mandated that everybody who worked at last year’s marathon is unable to work. Jim will still be in attendance at this year’s event.

Jim’s family will not be attending the marathon event, but plan to attend a Boston ceremony honoring him.
