GERMANTOWN, N.Y. – Police said a 32-year-old woman was arrested and charged for taking more than $1,000 from a local scout pack.

Jenny C. Smith, of Elizaville, has been arrested and charged with felony Forgery by the Columbia County Sheriff’s office.

According to authorities, the sheriff’s office was notified on April 3 that checks were being made out to cash, drawn from the Germantown Cub Scout Pack 115 checking account, and one of the authorized signer’s names was being forged on the checks which required two signatures.

Through an extensive investigation, it was discovered that Smith was the treasurer for Pack 115 when the checks were being forged. The first check that was forged occurred in December 2012 and continued through November 2013. It is alleged that Smith forged the checks to benefit herself, and the total amount of money taken from the account was $1,516.

Smith was arrested on June 14 and arraigned in Germantown Town Court. She was released on her own recognizance.

The case has been moved to Columbia County Court.
