CONNECTICUT – Sometimes in baseball, it’s not if you hit a slump but when. And for the Tri-City ValleyCats, their slump was later in the season and not during the playoffs.
Tri-City has won five straight games heading into the first game of the playoffs Wednesday night. Confidence is high in the clubhouse, which is a huge turnaround from a few weeks ago when the Cats lost eight of nine games.
The team said they figured out a lot about themselves during the slump and have since fixed during the win streak and plan to take into the postseason.
“We’ve gotten bunts down, we’ve gotten guys into scoring position, and we’ve gotten big hits,” catcher Jamie Ritchie said. “So momentum’s huge and hopefully it will carry through to this series.”
“All we need to do is play solid defense and pitch well, and then we’ll find a way to score some runs,” manager Ed Romero said.
Joe Musgrove gets the start in the semifinals Wednesday.
