ALBANY, N.Y. – A fire broke out at a home on Elizabeth Street in Albany Wednesday night.

The call for a fire came in around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at 78 Elizabeth St. where flames were shooting through the roof.

Elizabeth Street and Second Avenue were closed as crews worked the scene. Responders fought the fire from the exterior of the building.

Penny Pittman lived in the home. She said she smelled smoke coming from downstairs and thought someone was burning something in the kitchen, but then fire alarms went off and the power went out.

Pittman said she grabbed what she could and ran outside.

“I lost everything I own,” she said. “My kids’ stuff; my ID.”
