TROY, N.Y. – Eleven police departments in the Capital Region were called into Troy to help with crowd control after about 500 or more UAlbany students were left in the streets when their homecoming venue cancelled.

Saturday was homecoming weekend for SUNY Albany.  Three fraternities from the university contracted Kokopellis Night Club on 4th Street in Troy for a private event.  According to police, 160 people received tickets for the private event.  There was also an event for about 500 more SUNY Albany students planned at the Atrium Bingo Hall.

Troy Police say they were aware of the large events and planned accordingly for the large crowds.

As the party at Kokopellis kicked off, the students who would be celebrating their homecoming at the Atrium found out their party was cancelled.  The cancellation left about 500 college students on the streets of Troy after their shuttles already returned to UAlbany.

Around 10 p.m. Troy Police were working on crowd control and had to call in 11 other police departments in the area including Watervliet, Cohoes, and East Greenbush Police.

Troy Police Captain John Cooney described the night as "organized chaos."

Three blocks had to be closed off for "unmanageable pedestrian activity" for about 3 hours.

There were a few altercations during the 3 hour crowd control but there were no injuries and no arrests throughout the night.

Authorities worked with UAlbany to send the students back to campus on shuttles.

Cooney said the incident "required patience" from the police officers.  He also stated that Saturday night was "an amazing success story for crowd control."
