EAST GREENBUSH, N.Y. -- One person has been hospitalized after being run over, and the driver of the vehicle involved has been arrested following an incident on Columbia Turnpike Tuesday.

Logan J. Marschner, 18, of Nassau, is charged with Vehicular Assault, Reckless Endangerment, and DWI among other counts after police say he hit a man when local residents attempted to box his vehicle in.

At about 1 a.m., police dispatchers began receiving multiple 911 calls from residents of Greenbush Station Apartments who reported that someone was loudly gunning the engine and screeching the tires of a vehicle within the apartment complex. Other calls reported the vehicle was doing donuts, followed by a loud confrontation between the driver and other individuals.

The responding officer observed a person being thrown from the hood of a vehicle that had abruptly stopped. Then, with the victim on the street where he landed, the vehicle lunged forward, running over the person.

As the officer gave pursuit, the suspect vehicle darted away through the alleyways of the complex and briefly disappeared. However it was located quickly within the complex where the driver had found an empty parking space and stopped. Authorities say Marschner was still behind the wheel of the 1999 Toyota Solara and was placed in custody.

According to witnesses, two residents of the complex who got up to investigate the noise in the parking lot both approached the Toyota and tried to wave it down to stop. Authorities say Marschner did stop, got out and proceeded to confront and threaten the residents if they didn’t get back in their houses. Then another resident showed up and announced the police were coming.

At this point, Marschner returned to his car and despite being boxed in by the people standing around, proceeded to drive forward anyway, striking one of the residents who was thrown onto the hood of the Toyota. Moments later, it was this 33-year-old man who the officer saw being thrown to the ground and then run over.

The victim was taken to Albany Medical Center, where he was treated and later released.

Marschner was held overnight in the town lockup and arraigned Tuesday morning. He was remanded to the county jail to await further court proceedings scheduled for Thursday. Bail was set at $25,000.00.
