ALBANY, N.Y. – The Capital Region, along with the rest of the northeast, is preparing for a large winter storm.
The first winter storm of the season has people like Theresa Taylor, scrambling to get last minute essentials at local stores. She picked up milk, bread and other essentials which she needs to keep her indoors and away from the frigid temperatures and snow covered roads.
"We're going to get dumped 12 inches, I think it is right now," said Taylor, who said that last time this happened, she was not prepared.
"I didn't want to be stuck, I've been stuck before and this was my chance before it starts tomorrow," she said.
In case anyone has to hit the messy roads, car expert Steve Hammes, has a few tips to prep your ride for the cold conditions.
"Have a good ice scraper, something stand up to a good northeast winter," said Hammes.
He also says to make sure to get the snow off of the car tires because it can affect a car's balance.
"If you have snow stuck in the wheel wells of the car, kick it off," he explained.
Drivers are also reminded to keep washer fluid in their car during the winter and refill before heading out over the next few days."
"Windshield washer fluid, we've all been on the road when the salt kicks up and you can't see," explained Hammes
