ALBANY, N.Y. -- Fourth of July festivities will be held at the Empire State Plaza Friday, with crews putting the finishing touches on the fireworks display in the morning.

It’s the biggest Fourth of July event in the Capital Region, and it's something many people look forward to every year. Thousands are expected to fill the Plaza again this holiday, and despite the day’s rainy start, crews began getting ready for the event at 7 a.m.

Workers were up on stage, testing the sound system and the lights, while pyrotechnicians set up one of the most important events -- the fireworks.

Alonzo Fireworks have been overseeing the main event for a number of years, and this Fourth of July they’re using a new firing system. With a push of a button, about 10,000 shells will set off into the night sky.

Fireworks begin at 9:15 p.m., but there will be plenty of events all day long starting at 3 p.m. But spectators should remember that glass, alcohol, and hard-sided coolers are not allowed. Only service animals are allowed, no pets.
