ALBANY, N.Y. – Eighteen-year-old Eric Green pled guilty in July to attempted murder and robbery and will be sentenced in Albany County Court Thursday.
Green stabbed an on-duty State Trooper in the neck at the Empire State Plaza concourse in March.
Authorities said Green told Trooper Rodney Smith he was homeless and needed a place to stay. Green attacked when Smith then asked the teen for his ID to check for outstanding warrants.
“A brief struggle ensued with the trooper able to fend off the assailant, but he also suffered an additional puncture wound to the right side of his neck, his face, and numerous superficial wounds to hands and arms,” a press release from the State Police said at the time.
Green then fled the scene taking Trooper Smith’s portable radio with him. Smith was taken to Albany Medical Center for treatment.
Green is expected to be sentenced to 30 years in State Prison. Trooper Smith is expected to give a victim impact statement at Thursday’s sentencing.
