GUILDERLAND N.Y. – A simulated a terrorist attack is being held at Crossgates Mall Wednesday morning. FBI, Homeland Security, local fire department, and police are all participating in the simulation.

Officials say this complex exercise is meant to be as realistic as possible and has been in the making for almost a year.

FBI and the local first responders do not know the scenario, and will have to work together to resolve the simulated terror incident.

Assisting groups include the FBI Albany Division, Guilderland Police Department, Albany County Sheriff’s Office, and Westmere Fire Department.

The FBI tells us this is a part of a nationwide effort that was put into motion after the attack on a mall in Nairobi, Kenya this past fall.

Officials say the simulation is happening in the area right by the movie theater inside. The exercise is scheduled to run from 4 to 10 Wednesday morning. FBI asks the public to avoid the property until then.

Crossgates Mall will open for business as usual at 10AM.
