It's a local woman's dream comes true.
Greenville resident Alyse Cook saw the need for a bald doll for small cancer patients.
So, she teamed up with two other women from across the country and created a Facebook page that garnered worldwide support.
Within months, MGA Entertainment jumped on board, agreeing to mass produce bald Bratz and Moxie Girlz, calling them the "True Hope" collection.
The dolls hit the shelves in Toys ‘R Us stores across the country in mid June.
“Oh my God, look Mya,” Alyse said as she walked down the aisle to the dolls. “I don't think in a million years when we started this, that this would ever happen.”
When Alyse saw the dolls for the first time, she told us they were everything she imagined.
“They have an outfit, a bracelet, it’s not just some doll, it’s bald, and they're beautiful,” Alyse said holding one of the dolls. “It looks like every other little girl out there, and they have a boy too and that was really important to us.”
The dolls are flying off the shelves and according to the photos on the Facebook page, into the hands of small cancer patients around the world.
“To see all the kids on the Facebook page, the pictures with their dolls, they love them, it’s really great, it’s amazing,” Alyse said.
But she says the dolls aren't just for patients and Capital Region shoppers agree.
“Everyone knows someone or has a relative who has cancer, it's out there, people should be aware of it,” said Linda Pabst of Saratoga Springs.
“It would help me to be able to explain to my children,” explained West Sand Lake mother Kileen Davies. “It’s something that we could use as parents as a teaching tool.”
A portion of the proceeds will help fund cancer research.
Alyce says that’s all the more reason to buy as many dolls as you can carry.
“I am going to get this one and I am going to get this one for Layla, there’s more over here,” Alyse said as she rummaged through all the dolls on display.
She grabbed dolls for both her daughter, Layla, and her niece, Mya.
“I am really blessed that they are both healthy, but it's so important to me that they see the other little kids and know that that's okay,” Alyse explained.
The dolls are serving not only as a companion, but a reminder - that ‘bald is beautiful.’

The Bratz and Moxie Girlz “True Hope” dolls are designed to support and comfort young girls and boys who so bravely endure cancer treatments. MGA also wants to be an active supporter in the fight to develop lifesaving treatments for children.”
