WESTRERLO N.Y. - Waking up to a nightmare Sunday morning the Duncan family of Westerlo found their beloved horse Belle dead in their pasture after having been shot in the chest with an arrow.
Extremely upset Lorraine, mother of the Duncan family says she feels as if she has lost one of her kids, "she's my baby and they took her."
According to Lorraine Belle loved to snuggle, and was the Belle of the Ball.
Lorraine’s husband saved Belle three years ago. Belle’s leg was hurt and was going to be sent to the factory when Bob rescued her.
Lorraine's daughter was learning how to barrel race on Belle, she describes her as gentle and sweet, and is in disbelief someone would commit such a heinous act.
The Duncan’s believe Belle was killed as a way to seek revenge against Bob. It has been a long standing joke in the community that the way to hurt Bob was to hurt his horses.
Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple describes the act as sickening and says that it is a clear case of revenge.
The Duncan's are left mourning Belle. The family plans on prosecuting those responsible to the full extent of the law.
