MOREAU, N.Y. - One home has been gutted inside after a fire and the couple inside escaped flames thanks to neighbors.

Around 2 a.m. Thursday, one home on Myron Street was a fiery scene and neighbors awoke to the blaze.

"About a quarter mile out we could see the orange glow we knew it was a good fire,"

Chris Watson, a first responder, rushed to the scene and captured some video.

"In a matter of minutes the whole house was engulfed everything was going, windows melting," explained Watson.

Next door to 7 Myron Street was Timothy Baker who heard his door bell going off and outside was his neighbors who rushed to his home for help.

"Standing there with his P.Js. told us his house was on fire," said Baker.

When Timothy stepped outside of his house, he witnessed the blaze ripping through his neighbor's one story home.

"I found the wife on front steps, brought her to safety," explained Baker.

Baker said luckily his neighbors had heard the smoke alarm go off in the middle of the night. The alarm had been given to his elderly neighbors only two weeks ago by Baker.

"The smoke alarm woke them up," said Baker.

The house itself was destroyed, but luckily thanks to Timothy Baker, the couple survived the flames.

Officials say the cause of the fire is still under investigation, although they do believe it started around a woodstove. A car in the attached garage was also destroyed.

I don't understand what a "good" fire is, no fire is a good fire. A family lost their home and belongings. This first responder is not representing the firefighting community very well.
