TROY N.Y. – A 19-year old and her unborn child are dead and a family is mourning after a fire spread to two buildings on 5th Avenue in Troy overnight.

Heavy smoke had filled the entire block as firefighters worked to put out the fire.

Troy Fire Chief Tom Garrett confirmed the death, saying crews located the body after responding to reports of someone trapped upstairs.

The call came in just before midnight Thursday evening on the 200-block of 5th Avenue, just across the street from Pizza Hut.

Fire officials are not releasing a name at this time and do not know if the victims death is due to the fire.

The chief said it was just a hard fire to fight. The fire was between the walls, and rescue efforts involved the personnel, giving the fire a head start.

At one point the fire became too unsafe, and all firefighters were called out of the building. It was not for lack of support, Chief Garrett says, just about everyone on duty Thursday night was on scene helping out.

Chief Garrett said it's hard to tell where the fire started, but it looks like the fire jumped from one building to the other.

There are hopes that the buildings can be reconstructed.

There's still no word on what caused the fire.
