COHOES, N.Y.— There was a fire at Matt's Fish Fry in Cohoes Wednesday morning.
Fire investigators are on scene trying to determine the cause of a 14 year old family owned business.
"I looked outside. I thought it was National Grid, but then we saw the smoke,"said neighbor, JoAnne Piterniak.
The fire chief said it looked as if the fire mainly damaged the left side of the building.
"The type of construction we decided to stay outside with it. The challenges were the way it was remodeled a couple of times. You're pulling one wall, and then another wall to go through, so it takes a while,"said Fire Chief Joseph Fahd.
Fire fighters were called to the scene around 4 a.m. Wednesday when they got a call saying there was heavy smoke and fire shooting from the front windows and roof top of the building.
Tom Sweeney, the owner, said Matt's Fish Fry fed up to 700 people on a Friday.
"It's really sad. I hope they rebuild. It's nice to see a family business do well and be popular and be successful and I hope they come back," said Piterniak.
Although their restaurant is gone Mr. Sweeney says they still have to keep up with delivering seafood to all the Capital Region fish fry businesses, which he picks up in Boston.
There have been no reported injuries.
