HERKIMER, N.Y. - A flash flood warning has been changed to a Flood Warning by the National Weather Service in Albany for western Fulton County, southern Herkimer County, and western Montgomery County.
The NWS says the rain has ended, however major flash flooding earlier Friday has left areas and roads still flooded with debris. Recovery operations are ongoing. Water is receding but persons in these areas should use extreme caution and avoid travel into flooded areas.
The Herkimer County Sheriff's Department tells the NEWS CENTER that all major and secondary roads in Herkimer are closed due to flooding and mud slides. They also reported houses and cars underwater Friday morning.
The Herkimer County Sheriff's Department is focusing on life rescues. They recommend that everyone else in the area get to the highest ground possible such as the second story of a house. If any residents are in a car, the sheriff's department says to leave the vehicle, re-enter the home and get to higher ground.
