COBELSKILL, NY. – Heating up an upstate New York cold case; FOX23's Christine O'Donnell investigates the life and death of 17-year-old Kathy Kolodziej after she was found murdered near the SUNY Cobleskill campus 38-years-ago.

For the first time police are releasing crime scene photos; and a serial killer once considered a suspect, is commenting on what may have happened that night.

September, 1974: Kathy Kolodziej, an only-child from Long Island, NY left her Ronkonkoma home and traveled 200 miles north to attend college at SUNY Cobleskill. After 60 days, her life came to a tragic end.

Friday, November 1, 1974: Shortly after 7:00 p.m., Kathy and some friends got a ride from campus to the Vault Tavern located 1.1 miles away. Just after midnight investigators say Kathy told her friends she was leaving the bar and would get a ride back to campus.

Saturday, November 2, 1974: Kathy was last seen before 2:00 a.m. leaving the Vault Tavern alone and heading west on Main Street toward the college.

November 28, 1974: Kathy was missing for 26 days. Then on Thanksgiving morning, investigators found her stabbed to death, partially-clothed and placed on a stone wall in a wooded area near the intersection of McDonald and Cross Hill Roads in Richmondville, about 5.5 miles away from where she was last seen.

2013: After 38 years of investigating and following up on a number of leads, including one from an elderly woman who said she saw someone who looked like Kathy getting into a yellow Voltswagon around 1:45 p.m. that night, detectives are still looking for the tip that could solve the case.

The place the crime was committed has never been found. Investigators say they believe Kathy's killer carried her body out to the stone wall after the murder.

Investigators also say they believe this case can still be solved and if anyone has any information to contact Crime Stoppers at 866-313-8477, or the New York State Police at 518-234-9400.
