NORTH ADAMS, Mass., - Governor Deval Patrick has announced that an application has been signed with Berkshire Medical to keep the North Adams Regional Hospital Emergency Department open.

Patrick is in North Adams on Tuesday where he made the announcement. However, he did say that the application still needs to be approved by the state.

Supporters hoping to save the facility say there will be a community meeting at the American Legion Hall Tuesday 5 p.m., and every Tuesday coming up until a resolution is found.

The meeting is a chance for people to come learn about the latest developments with the hospital as well as the week's planned activities and actions.

The hospital closed on Friday with only a few days' notice to employees and patients. Protestors against NARH shutting down gathered last week and over the weekend, to demonstrate that the facility is critical to the area.
