GREEN ISLAND, N.Y. – A new law could mean residents of Green Island may not be able to own more than three pets at a time.
But a decision has been postponed after a large number of residents spoke out at a public meeting, strongly opposing the idea.
Green Island Mayor Ellen McNulty-Ryan said the limit was sparked by an issue with one animal owner. In regards to that incident she said, "We had complaints about dog feces in one area. Police were then called to a house for a separate issue but found ten dogs in the apartment at the time."
Mayor McNulty-Ryan would not comment on the dogs' conditions and said those caring for the dogs voluntarily gave them up.
