ALBANY N.Y. - Twenty police officers will be honored Tuesday by law enforcement agencies from across the state, five of whom lost their lives in the line of duty last year, including Trooper David Cunniff of Duanesburg.
Cunniff was a nine year veteran of the New York State Police. He died of his injuries in December after his patrol car was hit by a tractor trailer during a traffic stop along the Thruway in Amsterdam.
Names of the fallen police officers, including those who died from ground Zero related illnesses will also be added to the Police Officers' Memorial wall. The memorial is inscribed with the names of more than 1,300 police officers who died in the line of duty across the state.
Some of the state's top elected officials, including Lt. Governor Bob Duffy will join law enforcement in honoring these police officers at the Empire State Plaza at the memorial wall at 1:00PM Tuesday afternoon.
