WATERVILET N.Y. –A Watervilet home damaged when a large tree crashing down on it, cracking walls and dousing the house with water.
No one was home at the time of Sunday’s incident; neighbors immediately notified the homes residences.
"We rushed down here and first thing I thought was to make sure the animals were okay in the house," said occupant of the home Rachel Lewis.
The animals were safe but her house that sits on Fourth Avenue in Watervliet was not.
The home is experiencing leaking, there are holes in the roof, flooding in the basement, and cracking walls.
Lewis called a cleanup crew and her insurance, the county management team also responded to assess the storm damage.
"There were probably some pretty strong winds with the storm. I think fortunately it was localized," said Tom Remmert Emergency Manager Albany County Sheriff's Office.
According to Lewis her insurance will pay for her to stay in a hotel and for food but for the likely thousands in damage she's not yet sure.
Just around the corner more storm related damage was causing a problem.
Another tree had fallen and knocked down power lines, leaving My Father's House Ministries without power.
"When I came I saw that the tree it fell on the lines and I just thank God it didn't fall on the buildings," said Pastor Rolang Dube of My Father's House Ministries. Though Pastor Dube was concerned about the power outage due to free produce he keeps refrigerated to give out to people in need.
“This year the storms have been very severe so nothing surprises me anymore," said Pastor Dube.
