EAST GREENBUSH, N.Y. -- One group is helping veterans heal from their wounds one step at a time.
The group is called ‘Rebuilding Warriors,’ and their goal is to rebuild veterans both physically and mentally through the help of service dogs.
Jeff Anderson, founder of ’ Rebuilding Warriors’ find dogs from reputable breeders, trains them, and then pairs them with wounded warriors.
Trainer, Kevin Williams says he teaches the dogs how to be not just a man’s best friend, but also a life-line.
“ It starts with your basic commands, like “sit” and “down”, eventually that training is taken to the next level. Then, it progresses into taking them into stores and down a busy street” said Williams.
People like Williams prepare the dogs for a life of service to those the men and women that defended our country, ultimately providing them with emotional support and comfort.
However, training the service dogs requires a lot of time, effort, and of course, money.
Anderson says his friends decided to do a little fundraiser to help him with the dogs and his overall goal, which trainer Dianne Amaral says is the most important part.
“To be able to give vets these dogs one of the most rewarding experiences” said Amaral.
