SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Capital Region residents are able to travel to Colorado for a cannabis tour with a travel package being offered by a local travel agency.
Washington and Colorado are the only two states where recreational marijuana is legal, and now Empress Travel has vacation packages to send Capital Region residents out west.
Owner Ed Plog said he began looking into travel packages to Colorado a few weeks ago.
“They’re real professional,” he said. “The hotels that you stay in will be a little nicer. They’ll pick you up in a car instead of a bus.”
Plog said travelers will visit where the plants grow and where they’re sold.
“It’s kind of like going to a wine tasting,” he explained.
In addition, travelers will learn about the history of marijuana, the laws and the different brands.
“If you’re looking for it to relax, there is one kind of plant,” Plog said. “If you’re looking for it to treat pain, there’s another kind of plant.”
Anyone who makes the trip, must follow Colorado laws, including not smoking in public, not smoking and driving, and travelers cannot leave the state with it. Any visitors must also be at least 21-years-old.
“If you’re not 21, forget about it,” Plog said.
Plog is hopeful the new business venture will generate more revenue. He has already sold one travel package to Colorado.
