FORT HOOD, TEXAS - Dustin Ross a 28-year-old from the Capital District has been stationed at Fort Hood Army base for the past three years, working as a mechanic on the base. Dustin tells NEWS10 ABC he was just leaving a doctor's appointment Wednesday when the shooting incident occurred.

Ross tells News10 ABC he didn't think a tragedy like this could happen again, especially after the first mass shooting in 2009 at the Army base.

The 28-year old said he was right outside the gate when the alarm went off and didn't think too much of it, assuming it was a test. He then realized something was wrong when the alarm did not stop.

Ross stated the alarm goes off once, twice or three times at the most and then it stops. This time the alarm kept going off, and then he heard sirens. Being out of the ordinary Ross pulled over and got out of his car. He then looked back and saw EMTs and fire trucks headed off in one direction.

Ross says he learned that you can never be too safe. He tells us the base is closed to military personnel today.
