BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. - The Saratoga County Sheriff's Office says they arrested a man after he allegedly kidnapped his ex-girlfriend and then stole her car over the summer.
District Attorney Jim Murphy tells NEWS10 ABC 28-year-old Ryan Place, of Greenfield Avenue in Milton, was indicted Wednesday on multiple charges including kidnapping, assault and grand larceny after being arrested in July.
Murphy says Place allegedly convinced a woman who he had a prior relationship with to meet him in near a wooded area where she was tied up for a period of 12 hours from 11 p.m. to 11 a.m. The woman was able to talk her way out of the situation and Place untied her.
"We are alleging, the police are alleging that he tied her up threatening to do all kinds of really frightening things to her," stated Murphy, "Very scary. She was able to convince him that she would get back together with him."
She was able to get away, after which Place then allegedly stole her car. Police were able to locate him a short time later due to the fact he was wearing an ankle braclet because of prior arrests. Murphy would not comment what those prior arrests were, however Place is a registered sex offender in New York State stemming from a violent crime in Saratoga County against a 14-year-old female in 2004.
Place has been charged with Kidnapping 2nd, Attempted Kidnapping 2nd, Assault 2nd, all violent felonies, Assault 3rd, Grand Larceny 4th, two charges of Petit Larceny, Attempted Assault, Harassment 2nd, and two charges of Aggravated Harassment.
He is scheduled in court Friday morning for his arraignment.
