ALBANY, N.Y. – Governor Andrew Cuomo has not signed the medical marijuana bill nearly a week after lawmakers approved the measure.

State officials said it will take at least 18 months for the Health Department to develop rules and regulations. Some medical marijuana advocates said 18 months is too long, and they worry the delay in signing the bill will make it longer.

“It all has to take time to get everything in order and plants grow only as fast as they grow,” four-time cancer survivor Nancy Rivera said. “I just wish he would get this moving because kids are going to die if he doesn’t.”

The governor’s office would not say why Cuomo had not signed the bill, yet, however, they did say he has until July 5 to sign the measure.
