SCHENECTADY N.Y. – The Unified Communications Center is Schenectady County’s new dispatch center which responds to calls from eight different municipalities including Schenectady, Rotterdam, and Duanesburg.

This is Troop G's communication center; equipped with the latest cutting-edge technology.

The new communications center was unveiled in October, and has been open and operating for a month.

The county was awarded $1 million dollars from the state to begin the unified dispatch center.

Officials say the facility was needed to consolidate what they called a fragmented emergency communications system into a one-county dispatch center.

The county hopes the new center will increase efficiency, coordination and effectiveness for its residents, while saving taxpayer’s money and improving public safety.

Still coming together, Schenectady city fire alarm pull boxes are out of service until the relocation of a new alarm service can be installed to the new dispatch center.

Some municipalities are still adjusting to the new facility.
