Cairo, N.Y. - Transportation problems have parents angry with the Cairo-Durham School District after the first day of school.
The recent merger of the Cairo-Durham schools has caused bus route problems with getting children home late, and leaving some parents not even knowing which bus their kids were on.
Fuming parents voiced their concerns at a meeting Thursday night.
"Why was my son dropped off an hour late on the bus for two hours?" says parent Travis Perrino. He wasn't alone in questioning the school board about the long bus delays on the first day of school.
Other angry parents voiced frustrations in front of Superintendent Mary Fassett, wanting answers about how long is bus gonna get delayed before parents are notified. Fassett says the delay was because students are still learning new routines.
She also apologized to parents for not notifying them about the unusual delays.
Parent Heather Halvorson, who has two sons, says she was worried about the bus delay so she called Transportation, but no one could give her an answer. She told NEWS10 ABC that one of her sons, a first grader, was put on the wrong bus.
Fassett says, "We will have more staff out there directing, we are going to be relying on the fact that people are creatures of habit and as they learn their new routines it will become automatic for them."
