DELANSON, N.Y. – Men and women who gave their lives for our freedom have received a final tribute.

With a sea of American flags waving in the crisp august air, the Patriot Guard Riders came together to pay their respects.

World War II veteran, Frank Luska says he was reminded of a time that changed the course of history.

“I joined the navy in beginning of the war,” said Luska.

Frank, now 93-years-old, remembers his voyage to the beaches of Normandy during the war.

“I was supposed to land there June the fourth, but we went over June the fourth and looked over the beach,” Luska said.

He says the waters were too rough and they had to pull back.

“I ended up on Omaha Beach. I watched this invasion with clear eyes. I watched a lot of horrible things and we lost a lot of men,” said Luska.

Today members of the Patriot Guard, local veterans like Luksa and everyday citizens honored those men who gave their lives from World War I till now.

“I cried today because they were all kids 19 and 20-years-old,” Luska said.

Luksa himself was hurt during the war, having his ear blown out.

Frank Furnia, member of the Patriot Guard said it was such an honor to do this for our veterans, as a final tribute for the men and women who died for our freedoms helps shape the greatest country in the world.

As everyone prayed and saluted the American flag, another was raised where veterans placed a solemn reminder of the price that's been paid.

As everyone thanked the veterans, Luksa was just as grateful.

“Take a look at those smiles, I thank every one of them,” Luska said.
