ALBANY,N .Y. – UAlbany men’s basketball team will find themselves in the same role as last year when they ran the table by upsetting top-ranked Stony Brook in the semifinals.

The Great Danes will be taking on the same four-seed Stony Brook by first upsetting top-ranked Vermont in the semifinals.

The playoffs have become a character trait of the team. And on any caliber team, there are players that step up in big moments. This year, that player for UAlbany has been sophomore Peter Hooley.

Hooley had a career high 30 points in the quarters and 26 in the semifinals.

“It’s a lot of fun especially from a young guy like him,” senior guard DJ Evans said. “He’s just extending my senior career, so my hat goes off to him.”

“I’m definitely feeling good,” Hooley said. “When the first shot goes in, it feels good and it happened in both games, and my teammates are finding me and I’m managing to put the ball in the basket, so I’ve got four days to keep working on it, and hopefully I can do the same thing on Saturday.”

Head coach Will Brown knows if Hooley’s in the zone, Stony Brook won’t let him be comfortable there Saturday.

“Peter’s playing at a high level right now, and I’m sure he’s gonna be a marked man, and they’re gonna make him work and put Coley on him and shadow him and they’re gonna make him work,” he said. “Hopefully, that opens up some opportunities for the other guys.”

And while Hooley has been the go-to guy in the postseason, he has no problem stepping out of the limelight if need be. After all, the Great Danes pride themselves on being a team that believes in each other.

“Yeah, absolutely. We’ve really come closer together over these last two weeks,” Hooley said. “That’s what we’ve focused on with 15 days leading toward the tournament. We’re definitely happy where we are, but we’re not satisfied, yet.”
