NASSAU, N.Y. - State Police say they found no signs of foul play in the death of an off-duty New York State Trooper.

According to police, the incident happened in the area of Nassau Lake on Sunday. They say Trooper Kerstin Williams, 27, was assigned to Troop F, SP Liberty, and resided in the Town of Nassau.

Williams was an 18-month veteran of the New York State Police. An investigation at the scene revealed no signs of foul play.

"Trooper Williams always had a positive attitude and was eager to do a good job while on the road. She was well-liked by both her peers and supervisors and showed the skill set and potential to have an outstanding career with the New York State Police," said Troop F Commander, Major Patrick Regan.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
