ALBANY, N.Y. -- Albany Police are investigating a homicide that occurred on First Street on Monday.
At about 2:00 a.m., officers responded to 325 First Street for a report of a shooting. When they arrived, officers located a male victim with gunshot wounds.
The victim, a 20-year-old male from Albany, was treated at the scene by medical personnel and transported to Albany Medical Center Hospital. Authorities say 12 hours later, the victim succumbed to his injuries. Police have not released the identity of the man.
China Morton told NEWS10 ABC she knew the victim, that he was her older brother.
"He was humble," Morton said. "Everybody loved him. He was like, I don't know, he was the closest thing to my father."
Neighbors declined to go on camera with NEWS10 ABC, saying they were concerned for their own safety.
However, Morton's cousin described the victim as a "very loving person. He was very outgoing and a hard worker. Everybody loved Chico, I can't imagine someone wanting to hurt him."
The investigation is ongoing. There is no word on a motive.
"It's still a very active and ongoing investigation," said Albany Police PIO Steve Smith, "We're still urging our community members to come forward with any information they have to call the Albany Police Detective Division."
