Police investigating Scotia homicide

SCOTIA, N.Y. – Police say they have arrested a 20-year-old man suspected of killing his 59-year-old mother shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday inside their home, located at 277 North Ballston Avenue.

Jeffrey Steele is charged with Murder in 2nd Degree in connection with the death of Theresa Bernard in the early morning hours.

Steele was arraigned Sunday afternoon in Scotia Village Court and remanded to the Schenectady County Jail without bail.

The ongoing investigation is being conducted by the Scotia and Glenville Police departments, New York State Police and the Schenectady County District Attorney’s Office.
