WILTON, N.Y. (AP) - Siena College is moving its inmate education program at Mount McGregor state prison because the prison north of Albany is scheduled to be closed next year.
The program's academic coordinator tells the Glens Fall Post-Star that it will be relocated about 65 miles south to Greene state prison in Coxsackie in January
Mount McGregor in Wilton is one of four state prisons the state Department of Corrections announced this summer will be closed in July 2014.
Siena College offers inmates at the prison college-credit courses in contemporary U.S. Politics, writing, microeconomics and business communication. The program is funded through private donations.
Siena College is one of 14 colleges that offer courses at 18 prisons in New York, at no cost to the state.
