SARATOGA SPRINGS N.Y. -- Saratoga City Council is holding a public meeting this morning, where the city will discuss becoming an involved agency in the proposed Casino and Raceway expansion, and their legal expert will lay out options for city.
Expanding the racino is a $30 million plan that includes building a five-story, 120 room hotel, as well as an event center.
Officials say the expansion would create hundreds of construction jobs and 260 new positions. But before this can happen, the state gaming commission must review the plans, hold a public comment period and conduct an environmental impact review.
In March, Saratoga's City Council voted unanimously to oppose the idea of a Las Vegas style casino in the Spa City.
For the past few meetings, residents discussed the positive and negative impacts the expansion would have on the community. This is not part of plans to create seven Las Vegas style casinos in New York State.
The public meeting on the expansion of the racino begins at 10 a.m. Friday.
