Rensselaer apartment fire claims the life of one

RENSSELAER N.Y. – A Rensselaer three unit apartment building caught fire Tuesday, taking the life of one.

Fire crews were called to an apartment fire located at 52 Walker Street around 4:47 a.m. Tuesday morning.

One person has been transported to the hospital. Crews confirmed that one person has died in the fire. In total, three families were evacuated.

Firefighters rescued a cat from Tuesday's blaze. A firefighter was seen giving the cat oxygen.

According to officials, upon their arrival the first and second floor of the building had a heavy presence of flames. Additional fire crews were called to help battle the blaze.

The fire remains under investigation.
