ALBANY, N.Y.—People gathered for a SNUG rally in Albany on Wednesday evening.

The first gathering was held at 6 p.m. at the corner of South Pearl Street and Third Avenue in the city's south end. On Thursday, a rally will take place in West Hill on the corner of Lexington and Elk.

"This community needs help. This community needs support. We need to unite," said Clarence Jackson, the Director of SNUG.

SNUG is an anti-gun violence group who was behind the rally Wednesday evening. Local activists and residents came together on the corner of South Pearl Street and Third Avenue, the same area where police say 30 year old Jamel Forbes was shot and killed on Sunday.

"Anytime that you organize people that means we're trying to find solutions," said Minister Justice.

Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan said the rally has her attention.

"All of our neighborhoods deserve to be safe and that's critically important to me. It's one of the things we're focused on," she said.

For its part, SNUG will be getting some financial help from New York State. The Trinity Alliance who oversees SNUG in Albany was selected to receive $280,000. Jackson said it will be used to help the community and its residents at the ground level.

"Things that will help them with becoming employable. You know resources to be able to refer them to if they need a home, shelter," said Jackson.

The Albany Police Chief and Police Spokesman say they are continuing to investigate the two shootings and continue to ask the community to come forward if they have any information.

The first shooting on Lexington and Elk streets, a 16 year old and 20 year old were shot. Both suffered non-life threatening injuries. The second shooting was in the South End where Forbes was killed.
