ALBANY, N.Y.—In hopes for a safe summer, Assemblyman Jim Tedisco kicked off his ‘Safe Summer Bike Helmet Safety Program’ Thursday.

Tedisco partnered with local Police Departments, law offices and ice cream shops to encourage kids to wear bike helmets for safety.

Policemen will hand out “good tickets” for free ice cream to kids in Saratoga and Schenectady counties who are wearing their helmet while riding a bike, skateboarding or rollerblading.

The program is hoping to combat the startling fact that in 2010 alone, almost 1,000 bicyclists were killed, and over 500,000 people were hurt while riding a bike.
