SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - Many people are showing their Union College pride, including the chamber of Schenectady County. They put up signs on the pedestrian bridge along Erie Boulevard to show their support for the Dutchmen as they head to the Frozen Four.
"Erie Boulevard has over 25,000 cars per day go underneath this pedestrian walkway and the sign will recognize go Union!" said Chuck Steiner, President of Chamber of Schenectady.
The super-sized banners were revealed Monday morning, The Chamber of Schenectady County and community leaders gathered for a big send off for the Union's men's hockey team as they'll be headed to Philadelphia on Tuesday. This is the second time the Dutchmen are playing in the Frozen Four.
"It's kind of nice to go to a little more of a hockey venue. Philadelphia-- There's a lot of historic past there. It will be kind of fun to check out somewhere different," said Coach Rick Bennett.
"As our second time we have two classes that were there with us so we have the experience, so it's going to be exciting getting down there, but it's going to be a more businesslike approach this time around and we are there to win a national championship... That is our main goal," said hockey player Cole Ikkala.
A local jewelry company also presented Coach Rick Bennett with a jewel encrusted hockey puck with the team's signature colors this morning in honor of the team's success.
"The people of this community come out and support us. And the way we show our support is to play as hard as possible for them," said Bennett.
Union will be playing Boston College on Thursday in Philly. If they win that game, they'll be advancing to the championship fame on Saturday.
