TROY, N.Y. –Police officers and firefighters in Troy responded to six fires in the city overnight.

The Troy Fire Chief says there has been a total of six fires in the city since 3:40 a.m. Monday, all of which happened 10 to 15 minutes apart. Chief Tom Garrett is calling all of the fires suspicious.

The first fire happened at a vacant home on Third Avenue. The chief says that when they arrived, there was heavy smoke and fire. Luckily, the crews did not run into any challenges putting out the blaze.

There were five other small fires that crews responded to. Those fires involved a second vacant home, two garages, one shed and an alley way fire involving a fence and trash.

The latest fire happened on the 600 block of Sixth Avenue. Chief Garret explains the fire started by someone throwing something inside the window.

Officials have confirmed that there were no injuries throughout the morning.

Police have been canvassing the area and are asking residents to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity.

Troy Mayor Rosamilia released a statement on Monday morning about the suspicious events that took place over the weekend, including a stabbing that killed a teenager.

“The series of events involving criminal activity over the course of this weekend are very unfortunate and will not be tolerated in the City of Troy. As we speak, my administration is working with both the Police and Fire Departments to ensure the safety of residents, families and businesses and also to bring justice to the individuals who are guilty of this unthinkable behavior.

While we cannot provide any additional information at this time, we ask that anyone who witnessed any of these criminal events or who has any additional information to please come forward and provide that information to the Troy Police Department by calling 270-4426 or the Troy Police Department by calling 270-4471.

Additionally, I would like to express my condolences in regards to Friday night’s fatal stabbing. My heart goes out to the family and friends of the victim.”
