ALBANY, N.Y. – An American’s soldier’s release has local lawmakers speak out about the circumstances surrounding his release.
Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, a prisoner of the Taliban since 2009, is back home after five Guantanamo Bay detainees were exchanged for him.
Opponents claim the release of the five detainees could cost more American lives in the long run.
"As the number one terror target of the United States as the senator from New York I have concerns so I’m going to look into it when I get back to Washington,” said Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D- NY).
“Certainly congress will be fed information on how this was negotiated but the important thing is that we have our former prisoner of war back in the U.S.,” said Representative Paul Tonko (D-NY).
