AMSTERDAM, N.Y. — A 62-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly sexually abusing a person in his care while employed at St. Mary's Healthcare, Inpatient Addictions Rehab.
John Gaston, employed as a counselor at St. Mary's Healthcare, Inpatient Addictions Rehab, has been arrested for alleged sexual abuse following an investigation conducted by the Justice Center.
The incident first came to the attention of law enforcement officials when a supervisor contacted the Justice Center's Vulnerable Persons Central Register Hotline. A call center representative opened a case tracking file and Justice Center investigators launched an investigation.
According to the complaint, the defendant placed his hands in contact with the breasts and buttocks of the victim.
Gaston was arrested on a Misdemeanor Complaint charging him with:
- one count of Sexual Abuse in the Second Degree, a class "A" Misdemeanor
- one count of Sexual Abuse in the Third Degree, a class "B" Misdemeanor
- one count of Forcible Touching, a class "A" Misdemeanor
- one count of Harassment in the Second degree, a Violation
He was arraigned on the charges in Amsterdam City Court and released on $1,000 bond. He has been terminated from his position.
St. Mary's Healthcare released the following statement after Gaston's arrest:
"St. Mary's Healthcare is aware that as a result of an investigation conducted by the NYS Justice Center, charges have been filed against former employee, John "Brock" Gaston. At the time the concern became known to St. Mary's, immediate and appropriate action was taken, and St. Mary's has fully cooperated with the investigation.
St. Mary's is not at liberty to disclose any other comments about the investigation or Mr. Gaston's employment at St. Mary's Healthcare."
