The DEC plans on placing tight restrictions on a ravena cement plant after high levels of mercury were found in the surrounding neighborhoods.
The DEC has issued a first-of-its-kind proposal in the state to limit the amount of mercury the smokestacks at the La Farge Cement Plant could emit each year.
Even with the restrictions, the LaFarge plant would still be the second largest polluter in the state.
