ALBANY, N.Y. – There's growing concern regarding the safety at a parking garage which is used by more than 1,300 people every day.

Police say that on Wednesday morning around 5:40 a.m., a 40-year-old state worker was robbed at knife-point at the Sheridan Hollow parking garage in Albany.

Authorities tell NEWS10 ABC, the thief came up from behind the woman and demanded money from her. She gave the suspect her cell phone and he fled.

However, state workers who use the parking garage say this is not an isolated incident. Some of those workers have reached out to their Union, PEF.

The workers sent PEF several emails regarding the lack of lighting and security in the garage.

A team from PEF visited the garage on Friday and said they will take their findings directly to the Office of General Services.

Following the recent incident, state workers that spoke with NEWS10 ABC say they plan on taking precautions.

The Division of Criminal Justice Services, which is where the victim of the robbery works, says the department is working with State Police and Albany Police to make the parking garage safer.

Police believe it is possible that the suspect in this case is also responsible for the attempted armed robbery at a Stewart's on Washington Avenue which happened around 5 a.m. on Wednesday.
