TROY, N.Y. - A man charged with a deadly stabbing in Troy was arraigned on Monday.
Xavier Parker, 18, was arrested by Troy Police in his hometown of Brewster on Friday.
Parker is facing manslaughter and weapons charges in connection with the death of 32-year-old Donald Gooding back in March. Parker is accused of stabbing Gooding inside his home on the 300-block of Third Street on March 9.
Officials say the victim was taken to Samaritan Hospital and later died of his injuries.
Following the incident, police did not have a suspect right away and continued with their investigation for five months. Authorities say with hard work and dedication to the case, investigators were able to locate Parker, who they believe is responsible for the murder, about 150 miles south in Brewster, New York.
The Rensselaer County District Attorney's Office says they're committed to work with police to solve complicated cases like these.
“We are working these unsolved cases and we are working diligently and we never give up. We want to assure the Troy Police Department and our office is working in conjunction with each other to bring people to justice for committing these heinous acts,” said Carmelo Laquidara, First Assistant District Attorney.
The District Attorney's Office has requested orders of protection for witnesses involved in this case. Parker and the victim were acquaintances, but the DA's Office would not comment if Parker had any criminal history.
