ALBANY, N.Y. - One day after a crude oil leak, Congressman Paul Tonko visited the Port of Albany.
The visit was scheduled prior to Wednesday's leak, which authorities called "minor".
The Department of Environmental Conservation said around 100 gallons of crude oil leaked in an area 10 feet in diameter from a service pipe that runs between two large storage tankers. Officials said a gasket fell on an inactive pipe that still contained oil in the pipeline. The Albany Fire Chief said oil began spraying in the area, and crews found the leak while they were checking their pipes.
Tonko hopes to get a better understanding of the products that are shipped through the port on a daily basis.
